If you are like me, you are obsessed with jewelry. I really really really can’t stop collecting and I try to rotate my pieces so I get to wear them all. As such, the big jewelry question I often get is about layering necklaces. Everyone wants to know how to properly layer those chains, chokers, pendants, lockets and pearls so they look effortless and chic.
Unfortunately, there are no rules when it comes to nailing the layered look. But, there are some tips to help you find the perfect balance and proportion. Firstly, always start with the one necklace you really want to wear. This can be a stand out necklace or a piece you never take off because of sentimental value. Once you’ve got that part figured out, here are some suggestions to try:
- DO combine different chains; use dainty and chunky together!
- DO mix metals! While single tones are classic, mixing gives new depth to your style
- DO add a little color; BUT be mindful of your outfit. Pay attention to necklines and patterns.
- DO layer in levels; staggering lengths is extremely important.
